Samson or Goliath?
Samson or Goliath?
Another view of shipyard gantry crane 'Goliath' at the Harland and Wolff shipyard. No longer shipbuilding, H&W have diversified into other fields such as shipbreaking, recycling and renewable energy. Recently the yard has been taking delivery of offshore windfarm components for a project at Robin Rigg in the Solway Firth. Here 'Goliath' is lifting one of the sections of turbine - this will be assembled at the yard and transferred to Robin Rigg by ship. See also LinkExternal link for related images of the windfarm project and LinkExternal link & LinkExternal link for more images of the cranes.
