In the days before Laganside J3474 : Reflections on the River Lagan, Belfast and the Lagan Weir J3474 : The Lagan Weir, Belfast the Lagan presented a neglected sight and produced (at times) an unpleasant smell. Rowers J3474 : Rowing, Belfast (1) who came in contact with the water were advised to go straight to A&E for an anti-tetanus injection. This is the Lagan between the railway bridge J3474 : The Lagan railway bridge, Belfast and the Albert Bridge J3473 : The Albert Bridge with the inter-tidal muddy banks on view. J3474 : Pottinger's Quay, Belfast (1) is a similar view today. The Sirocco Works was still trading at Bridge End (upper left) – now moved closer to the harbour. Building the Lagan weir and cross-harbour bridges, Belfast
A collection of photographs showing the building of the Lagan weir and the cross-harbour road and railway bridges in the early 1990’s. There are also some earlier shots of the pre-impounding River Lagan, of Donegall and Queen’s Quays, the Abercorn Basin and of the immediate area before demolition.
