Gringley-on-the-Hill is a delightful village and parish, on the highest part of the road from Bawtry to Gainsborough, six miles east-south-east of the former, and the same distance west by north of the latter town. From its situation on the loftiest of the promontories which overlook the wide extent of Misson and Misterton Cars, it commands such extensive prospects, that the minsters of York, Lincoln and Beverley may be seen from it on a clear day, across the vales of the Trent and the Idle, whilst in the nearer distance, the Chesterfield Canal appears emerging from the tunnel at Drakeholes, and winding under the long ridge of hills which extends eastward to the Trent.text/html2005-10-16T17:02:47+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/1450Tom Courtney53.417948 -0.901578SK7391 : Middle Bridge

A recent photo showed a ladybird scurrying away from a spider. This one appears to be happy in the company of a butterfly. Perhaps they breed them tougher in Averham, ;)text/html2005-10-10T16:17:36+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/1450Tom Courtney53.080287 -0.938555SK7154 : Unusual apple tree

In the grounds of the workhouse can be found this very unusual apple tree, which has, growing in the fork of its branches, an elderberry tree - and as the photo shows both are bearing fruit.text/html2005-10-10T16:01:11+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/1450Tom Courtney53.080411 -0.854950SK7654 : War Grave

I came across this lonely Airman on the north east side of the church in Averham. Whether he is a local man or not I don't know, but I could not see any other war graves there.text/html2005-10-10T14:31:44+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/1450Tom Courtney53.083064 -0.850401SK7754 : River Trent
