The Centenary Walk is a broad path, running for many miles through Epping Forest. The photo was taken on the descent from Ambresbury Banks towards Epping. This area has many old beech pollards, coppards and other variations on mature beech. This is an unusual tree; it doesn't look like most old pollards, but I don't know how it came to be this way.text/html2006-01-22T18:04:50+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/4337Eleanor Dann51.682182 0.077168TL4300 : Beeches on Ambresbury Banks

Ambresbury Banks is an Iron Age hill fort, situated at one of the highest points of Epping forest.text/html2006-01-22T17:46:46+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/4337Eleanor Dann51.659566 0.084809TQ4497 : Debden streetscene

The Western part of this square has changed totally in the last 70 years. It is covered by housing and schools, but with some recreational open space. This photograph was taken in Willingdale Road, near the entrance to the playing fields. The brook, which runs from the forest down towards the Roding, is one feature which remains from the 1940s map.text/html2006-01-22T17:33:33+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/4337Eleanor Dann51.642545 0.081137TQ4495 : Small wood near the River Roding

This path leads through woodland and scrub, at the start of a nature reserve, beside the River Roding. How this square has changed in the last 70 years - there is now a large industrial estate and junction 5 of the M11 motorway.text/html2006-01-02T14:52:55+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/4337Eleanor Dann51.639711 0.037650TQ4195 : Qvist's Oak on Warren Hill

There are some fine, ancient pollarded oaks here. This is a high point on the Three Forests Way.text/html2006-01-02T14:39:53+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/4337Eleanor Dann51.651291 0.043951TQ4196 : Earl's Path Pond

This pond is the remains of 19th Century gravel workings. It is beside the Earl's Path and the Three Forests Way. The larger pond further South at Strawberry Hill is more attractive and is surrounded by woodland. Much of the woodland here is not "ancient", but has recovered after clearances.text/html2006-01-02T14:28:06+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/4337Eleanor Dann51.654961 0.039779TQ4197 : The Robin Hood

The Robin Hood roundabout is a major landmark on the Epping New Road, which runs through Epping Forest. For motorists (at least), this might be considered the centre point of the forest.text/html2006-01-02T14:17:58+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/4337Eleanor Dann51.649242 0.058315TQ4296 : Loughton Library

The bridge carries the Central Line over the A1168. This is part of the London Underground, despite being far away from the City. Nearby, there is a supermarket, shops and the Winston Churchill public house.text/html2006-01-02T13:55:03+00:00https://www.geograph.ie/profile/4337Eleanor Dann51.630787 0.084934TQ4494 : Entrance gates near Chigwell
