Former Kelvinside railway station :: Shared Description

The station was designed for the Caledonian Railway company by JJ Burnet, who was also responsible for the nearby former Gartnavel Hospital Chapel LinkExternal link . Opened in 1896, the station was closed from 1917-1919, before closing for good in 1942. The line eventually closed in 1966.

The letter CR for Caledonian Railway and a date stone are prominent on the front of the Category B Listed building LinkExternal link .

It is located at the south portal of a tunnel which is still intact and where the remains of the two platforms can still be seen.

The station was converted to a restaurant in 1980, but was burned to a shell as the result of a fire in 1995. It has since been restored and is currently operating as The Italian Bistro LinkExternal link .
