Henry Street, Kenilworth :: Shared Description

Henry Street was laid out in 1885 and was named after the landowner Henry Street (1825-1899). He was the first chair of the Kenilworth Urban District Council 1895-97 and lived at Abbey Hill Lodge. He owned fellmongery works in Kenilworth and Warwick, and large amounts of land in the Albion Street and Priory Road area of Kenilworth (he laid out Priory Road). In 1884 he gave the southwest corner of the Abbey Fields to the town. At his death much of his estate in Kenilworth passed to his nephew Arthur.
