The arms of South Kesteven rural district council :: Shared Description

The SKRDC existed between 1931 & 1974, The arms were granted on 26th October 1948.

The image is of a Viking ship with a Raven on the sail, surmounted with stooks of corn and a bishop's mitre. Above all this is a preposterous castle with the 'man of the woods' waving the banner of the Earl of Ancaster. The Raven is not only a symbol of the Viking raids, but an heraldic pun on the name of the village of Corby (now Corby Glen)

The motto underneath is 'ORA ET ARA' - Pray and plough.

A coloured version of the arms can be found on this page: LinkExternal link or here: LinkExternal link
