Durham railway station :: Shared Description

Durham station is out of the town centre, sited on a hill at the northern end of the viaduct that takes the railway across a small side valley. It only has two platforms, and one central track for through trains, but is a major stop on the East Coast main line between London and Newcastle.

The station building was built in 1857, probably by G.T. Andrews, for the North Eastern Railway Company, and is listed grade 2 (list entry number 1161508).
