All Saints' church, Collingham :: Shared Description

Grade I listed

The church dates from the 12th century onwards, and is the northern church of the two in Collingham. There was probably a previous church originally erected in Saxon times.
There is a west tower, nave with north and south aisles, chancel, north and south porches, organ chamber, and vestry.
The tower is the oldest part of building with visible Norman stonework and window. It is of two stages with a battlemented parapet and crocketted pinnacles. There are six bells. The tower is plastered externally.

The nave arcades are from the 13th century and both sides of about the same date, although the design differs slightly. They are both of three bays. The nave roof is from the 19th century.
The north door is likely to be the original oak door, and has a sanctuary ring on the outside.
The north porch dates from the 13th century, and is currently in need of some restoration to the roof.

The chancel arch is 13th century and has waterleaf capitals. On the south side of the chancel arch there is a double piscina. There are three further piscinas in the church. The chancel was restored in 1859, and the nave re-roofed in 1897.
On the north side of the chancel is the organ chamber, with an organ originally by Abbot and Smith. These were provided in 1910. The organ was rebuilt in 1978.

At the east end of the north aisle are two late 14th century sepulchral slabs set into the floor. These were originally in the porch, and moved in 1963.

There is an Early English font, with a wooden cover.
Most of the other fittings are 19th century.

Externally there are two scratch dials on the south side of the chancel.
