Observatory, Armagh :: Shared Description

Erected, at the behest of Archbishop Robinson and to designs by Francis Johnston, the observatory was complete by the early 1790s. The initial building had a single turret on its south facing façade. The building was later extended with a second round tower and a square tower being added. Both round towers are capped with copper domes. In recent years additional telescope houses have been set up in the grounds south of the main building.
