Written by Brian Robert Marshall

The plane is of the next generation of propeller-driven transports. The A400M had its maiden flight in December 2009 and deliveries are due to start in 2012 commencing with the French Air Force. The project is the result of a joint partnership between Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, Turkey and the UK. The aircraft are assembled at the Military Transport Aircraft Division of EADS-CASA in Spain with the wings being manufactured at the Airbus factory in Filton, UK. The wings are primarily carbon fibre-reinforced plastic and the eight-bladed propellers are made from a woven composite material.
