The "InShops", Belfast :: Shared Description
The “InShops”, on the ground floor of the “Hi park” J3474 : The "Hi-park", Belfast multi-storey car park, provide accommodation for small traders. My understanding of the concept is that they allow a small trader to start a business without being tied to a long lease. Some of the shops have a street frontage (and might not be affected) and some are inside – a bit like the original Smithfield Market. The local media reported this week that the operation will close by the end of June 2012. The explanation given is that the cost, to the “InShops” operator, of a new lease of the ground floor would make it uneconomic to continue. Note: the photographs submitted by me appear as a matter of record only and do not make any comment, for or against, the closure. The ground floor, vacant since the closure of the shops, is the subject of the following application for planning permission: “Z/2014/0312/F 6/03/2014 Former In Shops Shopping Centre 71-72 High Street Belfast Refurbishment of existing building to provide a new shop front facing High Street and other alterations to Pottingers Entry and Church Lane elevations Lidl NI GmbH”. Permission was given on 12 August 2014.
