Pixham End Roundabout cycling statue :: Shared Description
A statue of two cyclists, designed by the artist Heather Burrell, on the Pixham End Roundabout where Pixham Lane and the driveway to Denbies Vineyard meet the A24. Made of steel, it was unveiled on 17 July 2012 as a permanent commemoration of the London 2012 Olympic cycling road race, which passed here on 28 July (for the men) and 29 July 2012 (for the women), en route to a number of circuits on nearby Box Hill. The statue, which cost £22,000, was partly funded by Mole Valley District Council and partly by individuals, who were invited to pay £40 to sponsor one of the 300 oak leaves included in the design (the oak leaf being the symbol for Surrey).
