Gilnow Mill :: Shared Description

Grade II Listed as an example of an integrated mill combining spinning and weaving buildings.
After closure as a cotton mill in 1960, like many others it has seen subsequent use as a home for smaller industrial firms. In recent years it appears to have been more and more difficult to attract tenants with the result that the buildings are suffering from severe lack of maintenance. In particular the former engine house is now a roofless shell.
The mill was developed between 1857 and 1868 with later rebuilding following a fire, and some further development. A separate boiler house also survives.
