Old Law Beacons :: Shared Description
Vessels entering Holy Island Harbour lined up the two beacons on a bearing of 260 degs. and turned hard Northward at the tip of the spit. No light was added until 1993 except possibly unofficially and Trinity House took responsibility for the light in 1995 installing new equipment. Mounted at 9m above mean high water the solar-powered light shows a white channel light on a bearing of 264 degs. slightly different from the original approach heading.
Trinity house dates them as 1859 and designed by John Dobson but the Newcastle Courant of 12th Dec 1829 reports the building of two new beacons to replace the old wooden ones.
