Thames Gateway Bridge :: Shared Description

The Thames Gateway Bridge, first proposed in the 1970s, was a proposed 650m span bridge crossing over the River Thames between Thamesmead on the south and Beckton on the North of the river. The bridge was to carry 6 vehicles lanes, 2 for public transport, pedestrian and cycle ways and the facility for a future Dockland Light Railway (DLR) connection across the river.

Clearings can be seen on both sides of the rivers to where it should have been, including a truncate bridge over Royal Docks Road at Gallions Reach.

It was finally cancelled (or put on hold) in 2008 by London Mayor, Boris Johnson.
