Salvation Army Citadel, Brighton :: Shared Description
E. J. Hamilton's 1883 Congress Hall, in grey brick and terracotta-dressed stone with towers and battlemented parapets, was opened by Catherine Booth, the wife of the Army's founder.
Its poor condition led to its demolition in 2000; the 200 members moved to the nearby Preston Barracks until architect David Greenwood's new octagonal citadel was built.
