Devon Colliery pump house :: Shared Description

Built in 1865 for water pumping at the Devon Colliery, the main colliery of the Alloa Coal and Iron Co. The engine was a Cornish type beam engine, built in the same year, which is quite a late date for an engine of this type. Only the beam and part of the pump rod survive, the actual engine having been demolished. Surprisingly the building does not have listed status, although it is a Scheduled Monument.
