Discussion on SD8032

Many photographs on SD8032 show the derelict Hepworth site and indicate that drainage materials were produced there.
The derelict site however has a more interesting history.
The buildings were erected in WW2 and were occupied by the Magnesium Elektron Company.
It was the largest manufacturing site for magnesium products in the UK (source Wikipedia - Burnley)
It was also the place where the famous "chaff" material was produced. This material, consisting of thousands of foil strips was dropped by aircraft to confuse the German radar and was used many times including D Day.
